Pondok Ranggon Public Cemetery (TPU) is the final resting place for residents of the Pondok Ranggon subdistrict in East Jakarta. Under the Jakarta Regional Regulation (Perda), there are certain fees that the land lessee must pay. So how much are the burial fees at Pondok Ranggon Public Cemetery, and what are the levies?
Burial Fees at Pondok Ranggon Public Cemetery
The burial fees and levies at Pondok Ranggon Public Cemetery have been set by the Jakarta Provincial Government under Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2015. This rule aims to prevent illegal levies in the community. So, what official fees must the family pay?
Under the Jakarta Regional Regulation, the rates for leasing burial land in public cemeteries are divided according to block category. The rates are listed below.
- Block AA.1: IDR 100,000
- Block AA.II: IDR 80,000
- Block A.I: IDR 60,000
- Block A.II: IDR 40,000
- Block A.III: IDR 0, meaning no fee is charged
Terms and Renewal Fees for Burial Land Leases at Pondok Ranggon Public Cemetery
Burial land leases generally last up to 3 years. After that, the family may apply for an extension, with the first three years costing 50% (fifty percent) of the levy stated in the Regional Regulation.
For the following three years, the family may apply for another extension at a cost of 100% (one hundred percent) of the levy. This extension can be applied for up to 3 (three) years after the lease period ends.
If the family does not apply for an extension within those three years, the land will be used for a new burial. Meanwhile, those who wish to lease shared burial land will pay a separate fee of 25% (twenty-five percent) of the levy.
Leasing shared burial land means reserving a plot for more than one body. In other words, the grave will be reused by another family once the lease period has expired.
This practice is very common in big cities like Jakarta due to limited burial land. Graves whose leases are not renewed may therefore be used again by others for a set fee.
So, do these rates include digging, tent, and maintenance costs? The answer is no.
In Pondok Ranggon specifically, the burial fee at Pondok Ranggon Public Cemetery covers only the land lease. Digging and grave closing, tents, headstones, ambulance hire, and other items require additional costs.
You should budget around IDR 100,000 for ambulance hire and around IDR 75,000 for body preparation equipment. Including these, the total comes to IDR 275,000.
