A Guide to Choosing San Diego Hills Cemetery for Muslims

Are you familiar with the San Diego Hills concept for Muslim burials? The area cemetery in Jakarta has been very carefully prepared, allowing it to present a modern burial concept.

In addition, the cemetery also upholds diversity, both in terms of religion and culture.

Of course, graves with an Islamic concept are one of the priorities. Islam is the majority religion, with more than 80% of the population across Indonesia. It is therefore no surprise that the Islamic-style burial area here truly upholds Islamic values.

Features of the San Diego Hills Cemetery for Muslims

Looking at its outward appearance, the cemetery grounds are a wide green area that is always kept well maintained. The placement of graves for Muslims and non-Muslims is also appropriate.

Muslim graves are located on the west side so that they are not blocked by other graves and can face the qibla directly.

More fully, here are some characteristics of the burial area or San Diego Hills cemetery for residents who are Muslim:

  • Burial units face the qibla.
  • Land units have raised mounds of earth.
  • Graves for Muslims and non-Muslims are separated into different areas.
  • Headstones may be placed as markers.
  • There are pathways or walkways.
  • The burial area also provides a prayer room (musholla) for visitors to the graves.

The San Diego Hills Burial Concept for Muslims

The burial concept here is adapted from the pillars of Islam. In total, there is a 25-hectare area that serves as the Islamic burial ground.

The Five Pillars Garden is a cemetery garden that suits an Islamic atmosphere and adopts the concept of the five pillars of Islam.

Dr. Mona Siddiqui played a role in bringing this burial concept to life. She is a professor at Glasgow University in Islamic Studies and Public Understanding.

Another person who contributed to creating this concept is a landscape consultant from Scotland named Janet Benton. So what does the concept at San Diego Hills cemetery look like?

1. Unity Garden

A philosophy drawn from the first pillar of Islam (Shahada) is now reflected in the Wisdom Mansion. You can see this philosophy through a road design shaped as a spiral circle. It represents the oneness of the universe under the power of Allah Ta'ala.

2. Prayer Garden

The San Diego Hills burial concept for Muslims reflects the second pillar of Islam, Salah (prayer). There are at least three mansions namely the Guiding Light Mansion, Midday Mansion, and Before Dawn Mansion. The design is inspired by the obligation of every Muslim to pray five times a day.

3. Fasting Garden

This concept is a philosophy drawn from the third pillar of Islam (Fasting). Here, the concept of fasting becomes a path of simplicity through a landscape design that uses harmonious plants alongside arid plants.

4. Benefaction Garden

This concept is based on the philosophy of the fourth pillar of Islam, Zakat. There are two mansions namely the Fitrah Mansion and the Charity Mansion. This concept embodies the social care found in the act of zakat, and its design takes the form of a waterfall flowing to all areas.

5. San Diego Hills Islamic Burial Concept, Pilgrimage Garden

The next concept draws on the fifth pillar of Islam, the Hajj. This concept features a landscape of arid plants, which evokes a journey through the desert. The area also includes a Pilgrimage Pavilion, which symbolizes an "oasis" during the pilgrimage journey.

How Much Does San Diego Hills Islamic Burial Cost?

Prices and Islamic grave sizes vary depending on the type of grave. Here is the explanation.

1. Single Burial

The first type is Single Burial, which is one of the most popular options. The burial area here measures 1.5 x 2.5 square meters, and its capacity is 1 burial space.

The price is approximately IDR 63,400,000 per plot. There is also a Single Burial couple package, with estimated prices ranging from IDR 70,000,000 to IDR 132,300,000.

For package purchasing, this type offers several affordable packages you can choose from:

  • Couple Package: 2 plots of the standard type, measuring 1.5 x 2.6 square meters.

2. Semi Private

This is a San Diego Hills Islamic burial option with a capacity of 2 spaces or slots. It has barriers on the left and right sides. This type also includes an access road in front of the grave.

For this type, you already receive 2 benches installed at the grave. In addition, the family may add other accessories, such as plants within the grave area.

4. Peak Estate

This fourth type is the most exclusive option at San Diego Hills Islamic burial. Its design is also custom , meaning you can decide the concept or design of the grave.

Its size starts from 40 square meters and above. Because it is custom, the price is adjusted accordingly. The grave designs are also varied and can be tailored to your wishes.

Burial Procedures at San Diego Hills for Islam

Regarding burial according to Islamic teachings, the body will be placed directly in contact with the soil. This means the burial does not use a concrete box.

This differs from Christian burials, which usually use a coffin. So, once a Christian grave has been dug, a concrete box is placed to protect the coffin from the soil.

Understanding San Diego Hills Islamic Burial?

That covers the details of San Diego Hills burial for Muslims. As you may have noticed, the Islamic burial concept available here follows Sharia. In addition, the spacious and shaded grave area is another benefit you can enjoy.

Furthermore, for those who wish to buy a family package, the price is lower than buying individual plots. However, these package options are not yet available across all areas. Family packages are only offered in certain areas and subject to the terms set by the cemetery management.
