Beyond Grief: The Impact of Death on Those Left Behind

Thursday, 22 April 2021 23:30:59 - TABLOIDBINTANG.COM - While the pandemic continues to affect Indonesian society, many of us remain concerned about exposure to the virus. Although public knowledge and awareness of the 3M health protocols has improved, the decline in transmission and deaths caused by the virus is still considered less than optimal.

Regarding death, Indonesia's National Statistics Agency (BPS) notes that the death rate in Indonesia was already around 3 deaths per 1,000 residents before the pandemic. This equals about 1.1 million deaths per year, or 2 deaths every minute. The figure is likely to be even higher during a pandemic like the current one.

Death is therefore something that is very closely connected to the life of society in general. Yet many of us are still unaware of the effects that arise with each death, especially for those who are left behind.

Riman Budiman, founder of Kamboja, said, "Death is still a taboo subject to discuss in Indonesian society, especially within the family."

This perception leads to a lack of concern or preparation for everything needed on the day of mourning. As a result, when "that day arrives," it is the loved ones who are left to bear all the arrangements and funeral costs.

In big cities especially, the process and arrangements of a funeral can cost quite a lot, ranging from millions to hundreds of millions of rupiah. This can add considerably to the burden of those who are already overwhelmed by sadness and loss.

"Every death leaves behind not only the burden of sorrow and grief, but also physical and material burdens for those left behind. Surely none of us can bear to see the people we love, and who should be protected, burdened after we are gone," he concluded.

Kamboja is a provider of funeral planning, organization and funding services, offering complete funeral arrangement and management services, including their financing.

There are many things that need to be prepared when the day of mourning arrives, from transportation and handling of the body, burial or cremation location, coffin, headstone, funeral home, catering for mourners, to administrative matters. With Kamboja, however, all of these can now be handled better together with experienced professional partners in their fields.

Kamboja is supported by Astra Life, a well-known life insurance partner in Indonesia, in providing life protection for members, and is also supported by professional partners in the funeral sector such as the DKI Jakarta Funeral and Parks Agency, the Bandung City Funeral Agency, San Diego Hills Memorial Park, Mitra Medical Service, Akasha Ambulance, and hundreds of catering and florist partners spread across Indonesia.

With fees starting from around IDR 35,000 to 80,000 per month, Kamboja is committed to helping its members achieve invaluable peace of mind by planning everything in advance to ease the burden on their loved ones if "that day arrives."

Members Kamboja can choose one of several packages available, providing benefits ranging from IDR 25 million to 100 million, which can be used for all the needs of the funeral arrangement process.

"It may be a little unsettling to imagine our own death, but it is better that we become more open-minded, independent and prepared. This is to protect everyone we love so they are freed from the unimaginable burden when we pass on before them."

"If that day arrives, it is our own responsibility to prepare everything, not theirs. That way, only sweet memories of us will remain in their hearts when they think of us," he concluded.
