How Much Does Funeral Care Cost?

There is nothing wrong with learning about funeral matters. By understanding these things, you can more easily and better prepare a funeral for your family, relatives or others, including preparing a "final resting place" for yourself.

There is certainly a reason for this, because the availability of empty land has been decreasing recently. This is because land prices have soared, in contrast to the cost of new burial plots.

What many people do not know is that preparing for a funeral is not easy, from finding a burial site, to digging the grave, to covering the costs of funeral care.

If you want to learn about matters related to funeral care, do not worry. This article will cover them for you.

Types of Funerals

Did you know that the types of burial sites available today are divided into 2 categories:

A. Public Cemeteries

The first, and the most commonly used, is the Public Cemetery, abbreviated as TPU. These cemeteries are managed by the Regional Government.

For example, Public Cemeteries in DKI Jakarta are regulated under DKI Regional Regulation No. 1 of 2015, which covers Regional Levies. Under this regulation, the cost of funeral care in Jakarta is set at around IDR 275,000. This amount includes:

  • Land rental for 3 years, ranging from 0 to IDR 100,000.
  • Ambulance rental of IDR 100,000.
  • Use of body preparation equipment, IDR 75,000.

The land rental for the grave will be divided according to the block category and will run for a period of 3 years. To extend the rental, you must budget around 50% of the initial levy rate. If the grave rental is not extended, the grave will be used for a new body.

The problem here is that although the costs are low, the amount that families actually pay often differs from the price stated in the regulation.

B. Private Cemeteries

The second is a cemetery managed by a private party, sometimes called a premium cemetery area. Basically, both types of cemeteries serve the same purpose as a final resting place. The differences lie in the design of the resting place and the rental price.

Private operators usually do not only provide a burial plot. The graves are arranged and designed with a landscaped garden, and some even include 24-hour security services.

In addition, the burial fees charged also cover the maintenance of the grave. Some private funeral services offer additional services, such as financial assistance for the bereaved family, refreshments on the day of mourning, documentation during the funeral, and more. Naturally, the prices offered also vary.

For example, a private operator may offer grave packages ranging from a single grave for 1 person, to a double grave package, to a family grave package. Naturally, the prices and the land area used also differ.

One private cemetery service that is quite good is Kamboja. Kamboja is the first funeral protection provider in Indonesia. It offers a trusted and affordable solution for funeral management services for you and your family. Kamboja also provides a variety of funeral packages that can be adjusted to your budget.

How to Arrange a Funeral Without Falling Victim to Middlemen

For private cemeteries, where costs are relatively high, this is generally not a concern. Although the amount you pay may be high, it is in line with the facilities and services provided.

It is different when you use a public cemetery, whether for yourself, your family or others. It is worth knowing how to arrange a funeral properly, so you are not deceived by unscrupulous middlemen who often take advantage of families in mourning.

In DKI Jakarta specifically, the Provincial Government has already moved to an online system, especially for managing permits for the use of burial land. This helps prevent families from being deceived by middlemen. In addition, such an online system helps families better understand the procedures and how to arrange a burial, as well as the costs of funeral care itself.

The steps you should prepare and follow to arrange a funeral legally, according to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, are as follows:

1. Preparing the Documents

The first thing you must prepare is the various documents required for the funeral. These documents include:

  • ID card (KTP) and Family Card (KK) of the heir or applicant.
  • ID card (KTP) and Family Card (KK) of the deceased.
  • A letter of introduction from the sub-district office (kelurahan).
  • A body examination letter from the community health center (Puskesmas) or hospital.
  • A death certificate from the sub-district office (kelurahan).

2. Visiting the Public Cemetery Office

Once all documents are ready, the next step is to visit the public cemetery office. This is done to find the grave plot to be used, and a cemetery officer will guide the family. Make sure the family or heirs obtain a letter of introduction to the sub-district one-stop service office (PTSP).

3. Visiting the Sub-District One-Stop Service Office (PTSP)

The next step is to visit the sub-district PTSP (One-Stop Integrated Service). This time, the purpose is to obtain a Regional Levy Assessment Letter (SKRD) corresponding to the grave block to be used.

After obtaining the SKRD, the family or heirs can register and verify their data through the online cemetery system at the sub-district PTSP.

4. Paying the Levy at Bank DKI

The grave levy payment is made at Bank DKI. Here, the family or heirs will receive a validation number, which must then be submitted back to the sub-district PTSP. This is done to obtain the Grave Land Use Permit (IPTM). The IPTM is valid for 3 years and can be extended once it expires.

5. Visiting the Nearest Public Cemetery

The final step in arranging the funeral is to visit the nearest public cemetery. The cemetery provides burial services free of charge, complete with various facilities. These facilities include tents, chairs, a sound system, and grave digging and backfilling services.

From the discussion above, it is clear that funeral arrangements should not be taken lightly. There are important matters that need to be carefully considered. Do you now understand the importance of information about funerals and related matters?
